Spose – The Peter Sparker Mixtape

Attn: All Filmmakers, Spose new album review. Potential music for your upcoming film or web series

The ultra-talented Maine hip-hop Artist Spose is releasing his new album, titled The Peter Sparker Mixtape on June 10th.

New to Spose, well check out his bio:

Spose (Ryan Peters), a 27-year-old emcee and producer from Wells, Maine, is a paradox. He's a rapper. However, he's not trying to out-swag anybody. He pronounces his words clearly, never exaggerates his circumstances, and proudly proclaims on his upcoming 2013 album The Peter Sparker Mixtape that he still drives a 2003 Nissan Altima. Despite this penchant for brutal honesty, his wordplay and vast cult fanbase lead Vibe Magazine to refer to Spose as "the next great white rapper." As his hometown newspaper The Portland Phoenix put it, "Spose continues to be one of the most self-aware musicians you're likely to come across. It works because his talent is absolutely undeniable"; he is "the champion of the geeky, weird, and ugly."  Take a stroll into the snarky, sarcastic world Spose has created and it's easy to see why. In his songs and his stage show, Spose manages to distill both the tragedy and the comedy of modern American life with dark humor and slick wordplay.

Initially an underground hit in his native New England, Spose's unique brand of hip-hop has caught on nationally, landing him on stages with some of the biggest artists in music including Wiz Khalifa, Drake, Weezer, Stone Temple Pilots, J. Cole, Ke$ha, B.o.B., and more.  In April 2012, Spose dropped his third album The Audacity! on his own Preposterously Dank Entertainment imprint ("P. Dank," for short). The album received critical acclaim for Spose's album peaked at #6 on the iTunes Hip-hop Albums chart. Just last November, Spose launched a successful Kickstarter campaign during which his devoted fans raised over $28,000 in 30 days. Spose will put their dedication to use this year with the release of two free albums, The Peter Sparker Mixtape and Dankonia, both to be released on his P. Dank label in 2013.

A shift in mood from The Audacity!, which lyrically dealt with heavy issues including domestic abuse, bullying, suicide, and atheism, Spose wanted to give his fans something more fun and positive this year. He says, "I wanted to take my music back to the roots of hip-hop and flex my lyrical muscles over beats that fans of both old and new school hip-hop would enjoy, especially headed into summer, that they could bump as they drive to and home from work. It's a party rap album for the thinking man and the working class."

I had the pleasure of reviewing Spose new album “The Peter Sparker Mixtape” and I highly recommend it to all hip-hop fans.  My personal favorites on the album include “Peter Sparker”, “The King of Maine” and “In Your Dreams.”  Being new to Spose, I did not know what to expect but I love the clients at Big Picture Media so I knew I would still be a fan.  I’m not a huge hip hop fan but Spose has turned me.  Spose has new beats and lyrics that hit home to most of his fans.  He’s only speaking the truth when it comes to domestic violence and what it means to fight for your dreams to succeed.  Just a man from Maine but so much more than that! He’s a fighter. You listen to “In Your Dreams” and you understand his passion, determination and how no one thought he could be a rapper. Hence the title “In Your Dreams” as filmmakers do we not all feel this from others when we expressed we wanted to make movies.  I know it happened to me and still does. Like Spose and so many others, never give up.

In the track “King of Maine” Spose express what it means to be broke and feeling like a star. IRS, bill collectors all wanting money you don’t have but when you’re taking that time to work on your dreams you feel like a star, “King of Maine.”  You know you when you act like you’re accepting an Oscar, Grammy, playing guitar-imagining you’re on the big stage. That is what “King of Maine” signifies.

On June 10th, I suggest purchasing Spose new album The Peter Sparker Mixtape.  Also make sure to check out Spose upcoming shows, listed below.
